Beth Edmonds wins 2006 Maine State Senate District 10 election

Democratic Majority Continues in Maine Senate

(Freeport, Maine - November 8, 2006) State Senator Beth Edmonds won her fourth and final term in office with more than 67 percent of the votes cast in the State Senate District 10 election on November 7. This this is a significant increase over her 59 percent of the in 2004 vote and her 53 percent margin for the District 23 seat in 2002. Today, Edmonds expressed sincere thanks to those who voted for her and to her campaign volunteers. She said "I am pleased, gratified and humbled by the support shown to me by the people of Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell and Pownal."

In addition, Edmonds, who is President of the Maine State Senate, expressed satisfaction with the statewide results of Tuesday's election.

"I was thrilled with the strong performance of our Democratic Senate candidates," said Edmonds. "We were able to retain the 18 seats for the majority. Their success is a testament to the outstanding qualifications of our candidates, their hard work, and the tireless efforts of numerous volunteers on their behalf." The Democrats will retain control of the 35 member State Senate.

"I'm looking forward to the challenges of the next two years," stated Edmonds. "Working with Governor Baldacci, we will invest in research and development to grow Maine's economy, expand access to higher education, and address the escalating cost of health care. The state must fairly reimburse health care providers for their services, which requires funding the hospital settlement and increasing reimbursements for nursing facilities."
