Edmonds is Maine State Senate President

Augusta, ME 12-1-04 - Senator Beth Edmonds, of Freeport was sworn in on December 1, 2004 as President of the 122nd session of the Maine State Senate.

On Tuesday, November 16, Edmonds was nominated to be the presiding officer by the Democratic caucus of the incoming Senate. Democrats have a majority in the 122nd Senate with 18 of the 35 seats, the same as in the 121st session.

Edmonds won the most votes in a secret ballot session. Other contenders for the post were Senator Lynn Bromley of South Portland and Senator John Martin of Eagle Lake.

Edmonds was re-elected on November 2 to represent Senate District 10, which includes the towns of Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell and Pownal. She garnered a 60 percent majority of votes to return to Augusta for a third term. She serves on the Senate Labor Committee as chairwoman and is on the Natural Resources Committee.
