Beth Edmonds Seeks Third Senate Term As Candidate In Senate District 10

Freeport - State Senator Beth Edmonds (D-Freeport) has announced her intention today to run for re-election as a Clean Election candidate in State Senate District 10, Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, and Pownal. Since 2000, Edmonds has been State Senator for District 23, Brunswick, Freeport and Yarmouth. The 2003 legislative session reapportioned senatorial constituencies, creating the new District 10, among others. Edmonds said, "I am happy at the prospect of serving my neighbors in the communities of Harpswell and Pownal in addition to friends in Brunswick and Freeport."

Senator Beth Edmonds was the first state Senate candidate to register as a Clean Election Act candidate in Maine in January 2000. She has again filed to forgo private campaign donations in favor of receiving public campaign funds in this campaign. Edmonds said, "As always, I am committed to public financing of campaigns because I believe that every person, regardless of whether or not they can contribute money to a campaign, should have the same degree of influence in this State. I am doing what I can to make sure that every person I represent has an equal voice in our government."

Senator Edmonds is completing her second term as State Senator for District 23, which includes Brunswick, Freeport and Yarmouth. She is Chair of the Labor Committee and a member of the Natural Resources Committee. Edmonds notes her accomplishments as working to further Maine's commitment to health care, local education, and investments in research and development, among others.

"The needs of working Mainers, their families and elders, and small businesses are at the top of my list of priorities," she said. "I have enjoyed working for local constituents to advocate on their behalf in Augusta and I look forward to serving constituents in the new district 10."

Edmonds is the Children's Librarian at the Freeport Community Library, and lives in Freeport with her husband Dan Nickerson.
